Instructor: Immediate opening

Overview:  Great opportunity to work in a flexible environment with a growing local non-profit focused on providing opportunities to underserved youth.   This role will work closely with children, providing them with instruction on projects and serving as a mentor.  This Instructor role is an excellent opportunity for individuals who prefer to work in a hands-on environment and are passionate about teaching. 

Position is 40 hours a week with flexible shifts as some outreach programming does not end until 7:00 PM.  Schedule is predominantly Monday – Friday with one or two Saturdays a month.

Essential Duties:

• Woodshop on Wheels outreach programming instruction
  • Providing instruction at partner locations around the greater Indianapolis area
  • Instructing youth on safety
  • Teaching youth proper tool use
  • Stepping youth through the day’s build
  • Assisting youth with their build
• Maintaining a safe work environment
• Managing teen interns assisting in programming
• Preparing materials for upcoming workshops
• Connecting with youth and building positive mentorship relationships
• Cleaning Woodshop on Wheels after workshops
• Assisting in the design and preparation of monthly projects
• Assisting in classes at Deeply Ingrained’s shop
• Mentoring teen interns in the areas of: Timeliness, work appropriate conversation/communication, respecting others, living the mission, and work ethic
• Occasionally shuttling teen interns lacking transportation

Qualifications

Required:

• Passion and desire to work with underserved youth
• Compassion and respect even on the bad days
• Teaching experience or equivalent educational background
• Desire/experience working with hands
• Reliable transportation
• Valid Driver’s license
• Excellent communication skills and organizational skills
• Customer focused mind-set

Preferred:

• Woodworking or similar experience crafting with hands
• Experience pulling a trailer
• CAD or Vector drawing experience
• CNC/Laser experience
